¿Te Consideras Una Persona Peligrosa?

Antes que Jesús subiera al cielo para sentarse a la diestra del Padre, el dio estas instrucciones específicas a sus seguidores, “Pero recibiréis poder, cuando haya venido sobre vosotros el Espíritu Santo, y me seréis testigos en Jerusalén, en toda Judea, en Samaria, y hasta lo último de la tierra.» (Hechos 1:8)”. Todos entendemos el concepto de testificar del amor y la salvación de Dios, comenzando en la región inmediata y después ir a otros lugares. Pero que acerca “del poder” Jesús dijo que el Espíritu Santo nos llenaría de poder. Cuando los discípulos fueron llenos del Poder de Dios no se detuvieron ni se conformaron con pobres resultados, ellos fueron “peligrosos” (espiritualmente hablando) para la sociedad de ese entonces porque por medio del Espíritu Santo, ellos hacían milagros de sanidades, la gente se volvía a Dios en arrepentimiento, y muchos se agregaban al grupo de creyentes por haber experimentado un cambio al abrir sus vidas al Cristo resucitado.

Debemos tener cuidado de no caer en la trampa rutinaria, de ser creyentes que solo nos reunimos para hacer ciertas actividades, que solo nos ayudan a sentirnos bien con nosotros mismos. Si el enfoque en una congregación, o una reunión de hogar, no es dar lugar a la presencia de Dios, y a experimentar el mover del Espíritu, pronto nos daremos cuenta que las intenciones son nobles pero sin efectividad del poder de Dios. Si no tenemos ese encuentro íntimo y personal, entonces solo hay religiosidad y buenos deseos pero quedamos privados de experimentar la cercanía de la presencia de Dios.

El enemigo de nuestras almas sabe que mientras vivamos en ese conformismo no representamos ningún peligro para el, y continuará operando con sus maquinaciones como el engaño, la acusación, la duda y la mentira, cosas que el utiliza para paralizar al cuerpo de Cristo. Pero también sabe que en el momento que despertemos de este sueño, de este letargo espiritual, (Efesios 5:14) vamos a ser personas muy peligrosas que vamos en contra de él como verdaderos testigos, declarando que solo en Jesús hay salvación, sanidad, libertad, y algo muy importante, respaldados con acciones que demuestran el poder del Espíritu Santo con el cual hemos sido ungidos, y el cual permanece en nosotros.

PROMESA DE LA SEMANA – Y les dijo: Id por todo el mundo y predicad el evangelio a toda criatura. El que creyere y fuere bautizado, será salvo; mas el que no creyere, será condenado. Y estas señales seguirán a los que creen: En mi nombre echarán fuera demonios; hablarán nuevas lenguas; tomarán en las manos serpientes, y si bebieren cosa mortífera, no les hará daño; sobre los enfermos pondrán sus manos, y sanarán. Y ellos, saliendo, predicaron en todas partes, ayudándoles el Señor y confirmando la palabra con las señales que la seguían. Amén. (Marcos 16:15-20)

Do You Think of Yourself as a Dangerous Person?

Before Jesus ascended into heaven to sit at the right hand of the Father, He gave these specific instructions to His followers: “But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” (Acts 1:8) We all understand the concept of testifying of the love and salvation of God, beginning in the areas around us and then moving out to other areas, but what about “the power”? Jesus said that the Holy Spirit would fill us with this power. When the disciples were filled with the power of the God, they didn’t hold back or accept poor results, but instead were dangerous (spiritually speaking) in the society of that time, as through the Holy Spirit, miracles of healing were done, people turned to God in repentance, and groups of believers were formed who had experienced a change when they opened their lives to the resurrected Christ.

We should be careful not to fall into the trap of daily routines, where to be a believer only means that we gather together to do certain activities so that we will feel good about ourselves. If the focus of a congregation or a Bible study isn’t to allow the presence of God and experience the working of the Holy Spirit, then soon we will realize that although the intensions are good, they are without the effectiveness of God’s power. If we don’t have this intimate and personal encounter then it is only religion and good intentions and we are deprived of experiencing the nearness of the presence of God.

The enemy of our souls knows that while we live in the routines of religion we will pose no threat to him, and he will continue with his schemes to use deception, accusation, doubt, and lies to paralyze the body of Christ. But he also knows that in the moment we wake up from this sleep, this spiritual lethargy, (Ephesians 5:14), we will become very dangerous as we move forward against him as true witnesses, declaring that only through Jesus is there salvation, healing, freedom, and something very important, our words will be supported by acts that demonstrate the power of the Holy Spirit with whom we have been anointed and who resides in us.

Promise of the Week: And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.” And they went out and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them and confirming the word through the accompanying signs. Amen. Mark 16:15-20

¿Y Tú Quién Dices Que Soy Yo?

Recientemente tuve la oportunidad de viajar con unos hermanos de nuestra iglesia a la tierra de Israel, la tierra donde ocurrieron la gran mayoría de acontecimientos que después fueron escritos en la Biblia por hombres que fueron inspirados por el Espíritu Santo. Uno de los sitios que visitamos fue Cesarea de Filipo en la parte norte de la región de Galilea. Un lugar donde en la antigüedad se encontraban muchos altares para dioses de la mitología griega, donde la gente de entonces iba para adorar a sus ídolos. Fue allí donde Jesús preguntó a sus discípulos, diciendo: ¿Quién dicen los hombres que es el Hijo del Hombre? Ellos dijeron: Unos, Juan el Bautista; otros, Elías; y otros, Jeremías, o alguno de los profetas. Él les dijo: Y vosotros, ¿quién decís que soy yo? Respondiendo Simón Pedro, dijo: Tú eres el Cristo, el Hijo del Dios viviente. (Mateo 16:16-17).

Mientras estuvimos en ese lugar pudimos ver las ruinas de los altares de piedras que permanecen hasta hoy, y se puede comprender porque Jesús hizo esta pregunta a sus discípulos, ellos tuvieron mejor entendimiento y comprendieron la diferencia entre los ídolos muertos y Jesús, por esta razón Pedro declaró que verdaderamente él era el Cristo, el Hijo de Dios. Hoy en día vivimos no solamente en una región donde hay idolatría, sino en una sociedad corrompida y saturada por ella. Los ídolos ahora no son estatuas de piedra ni altares de adoración, sino son cosas que no tienen la forma de un ídolo pero han tomado control en la vida de personas, como el materialismo, los placeres, el libertinaje, etc. O también cosas internas que les roban la capacidad de enfoque, como las heridas del pasado, las dudas y los afanes, la constante preocupación que poco a poco se convierten en un estilo de vida. Si te encuentras en esta situación, contesta en forma personal a la pregunta de Jesús: ¿Y tú quién dices que soy yo? Que de lo profundo de tu corazón y con mucha sinceridad tú puedas decir, tú eres mi Salvador y desde hoy te dejo el control de mi vida reconociéndote como mi Señor, pues tú eres el Cristo el Hijo del Dios viviente.

PROMESA DE LA SEMANA – Entonces le respondió Jesús: Bienaventurado eres, Simón, hijo de Jonás, porque no te lo reveló carne ni sangre, sino mi Padre que está en los cielos. Y yo también te digo, que tú eres Pedro, y sobre esta roca edificaré mi iglesia; y las puertas del Hades no prevalecerán contra ella. Y a ti te daré las llaves del reino de los cielos; y todo lo que atares en la tierra será atado en los cielos; y todo lo que desatares en la tierra será desatado en los cielos. (Mateo 16:17-19)

And Who Do You Say That I Am?

Recently I had the opportunity to travel with some brothers and sisters from our church to the land of Israel, the place where the great majority of events recorded in the inspired Word of God took place. One of the places that we visited was Caesarea Philippi in the northern region of Galilee. Long ago, this was a place where one could find many altars to the gods of Greek mythology and because of this many people would go there to worship their idols. It was in this place that Jesus questioned His disciples saying; “Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?” So they said, “Some say John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Simon Peter answered and said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” (Matthew 16:13-16)

While we were there we could see the ruins of those stone altars that remain to this day, and we could understand why Jesus asked His disciples this question. It was to see if they realized and understood the difference between those dead idols and Jesus himself. That is what made Peter’s response so significant when he answered and declared that truly He was the Christ, the Son of God. Today we live in times where it is not just one region of our country that practices idolatry, but a whole society that is corrupted and saturated by it. The idols of today are not wooden statues or altars of worship, but rather external things, without the obvious appearance of idols, that have taken control of the lives of people all the same such as materialism, pleasures, licentiousness, etc. Today’s idols could also take the form of internal things that rob us of the ability to focus such as the hurts from the past, doubts, worries, or the state of constant preoccupation that little by little turns into a life style. If you find yourself in this situation, answer Jesus’s question for yourself: “And you, who do you say that I am?” May you be able to declare from the depths of your heart and with complete sincerity, “You are my savior and from now on, I turn over the control of my life to You, acknowledging You as my Lord, because You are the Christ, the Son of the Living God.”

Promise of the Week: “Jesus answered and said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven. And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it. And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed] in heaven.” Matthew 16:17-19
